From Page to Screen: Kiley Reid’s Debut Novel SUCH A FUN AGE

The film and television rights for SUCH A FUN AGE, an upcoming Putnam title from Kiley Reid, have been acquired by Emmy-winning actress, producer, and screenwriter Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions and Sight Unseen Pictures, as reported by Deadline.
Set around a young black babysitter, her well-intentioned employer, and a surprising connection between them that threatens to undo them both, Reid’s debut novel will explore the complicated nature of transactional relationships, of being a “grown up,” and of doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.
SUCH A FUN AGE was acquired by Putnam’s Editor-in-Chief Sally Kim in a major ten-publisher auction, and will be published in Fall 2019.
Reid is currently pursuing a Masters in Fine Arts at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, where she was awarded the Truman Capote Fellowship. Her short stories have been featured and are forthcoming in Ploughshares, December, New South, and other literary journals and publications.
This screen rights acquisition marks the first collaboration between Hillman Grad Productions (The Chi) and Sight Unseen Pictures, the production/finance company run by producers Julia Lebedev (Dear White People), Eddie Vaisman (The Dinner), and Oren Moverman (The Tale).
