Doubleday Author Asako Serizawa Wins the 2021 PEN Open Book Award
PEN America announced the winners of its 2021 Literary Awards via a virtual ceremony on Thursday, April 8, with Doubleday author Asako Serizawa winning the PEN Open Book Award for her debut story collection, INHERITORS. This award, which includes a $10,000 cash prize, recognizes an exceptional book-length work of any literary genre by an author of color. Featuring 13 stories that span five generations of a Japanese family fragmented by the Pacific side of World War II, this book also won The Story Prize Spotlight Award earlier this year.
Our warm congratulations to Ms. Serizawa, her editor, Lee Boudreaux, and everyone at Doubleday.
As we salute the PRH finalists nominated in this year’s PEN Awards categories, we warmly congratulate Garous Abdolmalekian, Jennifer Ackerman, Akwaeke Emezi, Ben Hubbard, Robert Kolker, Souvankham Thammavongsa, Isabel Wilkerson, and C Pam Zhang.
