Tonight: Lin-Manuel Miranda Leads IN THE HEIGHTS Virtual Book Launch Lineup

In the new book IN THE HEIGHTS: Finding Home, Miranda, Quiara Alegría Hudes, and Jeremy McCarter tell the story of the show’s humble beginnings, from rehearsals in a bookstore basement to the Broadway smash (now a major motion picture) that created an unbreakable community and a new kind of family for everyone involved.

For the film version, director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) brought the story home, filming its spectacular dance numbers on location in Washington Heights. The IN THE HEIGHTS book delves into the lives of creatives living in Washington Heights, with untold stories, essays, and original lyrics, as well as heartfelt annotations from Lin-Manuel Miranda, never-before-seen images from behind the scenes on set, backstage, and all around the world.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is a heavily decorated songwriter, actor, director, and New York Times bestselling author. He is the creator and original star of Broadway’s Hamilton and In the Heights and has collaborated on several additional Broadway projects, including Freestyle Love Supreme, Bring It On: The Musical, and West Side Story (the 2009 revival, Spanish translations). Mr. Miranda and The Miranda Family actively support initiatives that increase BIPOC representation in the arts and government, ensure access to women’s reproductive health, and promote resilience in Puerto Rico. He currently lives in New York with his family.
Quiara Alegría Hudes is a native of Philadelphia and the author of the Tony-winning Broadway musical In The Heights. She is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright for Water by the Spoonful and the author of the memoir, My Broken Language. As a prison reform activist, she also co-created Emancipation Stories, a platform established with her cousin where people who have been impacted by the justice system can share their stories with the world. Hudes is currently residing in New York with her family.
Jeremy McCarter studied history at Harvard University and has written about culture and politics for New York, Newsweek, The New York Times, and Buzzfeed and he was also part of the artistic staff for the Public Theater of New York for five years. McCarter is the co-author of Hamilton: The Revolution with Lin-Manuel Miranda and he currently lives in Chicago.
