THE HANDMAID’S TALE & THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT Earn Multiple Emmy Nominations
The Television Academy has announced its nominations for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, with TV adaptations of books published by Penguin Random House imprints earning close to 70 nominations. The Primetime Emmys will air live Sunday, September 19, on the CBS television network, streaming on Paramount+.
A rundown of our Emmy nominations:
Margaret Atwood’s THE HANDMAID’S TALE (Anchor/Nan A. Talese/Doubleday), on Hulu, received 21 nominations, including Drama Series; Lead Actress, Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss); Supporting Actress, Drama Series (Madeline Brewer); Supporting Actress, Drama Series (Ann Dowd); Supporting Actress, Drama Series (Yvonne Strahovski); Supporting Actress, Drama Series (Samira Wiley); Supporting Actor, Drama Series (O-T Fagbenie); and Supporting Actor, Drama Series (Max Minghella).
Walter Tevis’ THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT (Vintage), on Netflix, received 18 nominations, including Limited/Anthology Series; Lead Actress, Limited or Anthology or Movie (Anya Taylor-Joy); Supporting Actor, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Thomas Brodie-Sangster); Supporting Actress, Limited or Anthology (Moses Ingram); and Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series.
Ron Chernow’s ALEXANDER HAMILTON (Penguin/Penguin Press), adapted as HAMILTON for stage and screen by Lin-Manuel Miranda, on Disney+, received 12 nominations, including Lead Actor, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Lin-Manuel Miranda); Lead Actor, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Leslie Odom, Jr.); Supporting Actor, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Daveed Diggs, Jonathan Groff and Anthony Ramos); and Supporting Actress, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Renée Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo).
Chris Bohjalian’s THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT (Vintage), on HBO MAX, received 10 nominations, including Comedy Series; Lead Actress, Comedy Series (Kaley Cuoco); Supporting Actress, Comedy Series (Rosie Perez); and Directing for a Comedy Series.
Colson Whitehead’s THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD (Anchor/Doubleday), on Amazon Prime Video, received 7 nominations, including Limited or Anthology Series; and Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series.
Fran Lebowitz’s THE FRAN LEBOWITZ READER (Vintage), on HBO, was nominated in the Documentary or Nonfiction Series category.
