Penguin Random House Donates Books to Read Ahead Partner Schools

As part of our ongoing support of Read Ahead, Penguin Random House donated books to their end-of-year celebrations, with titles distributed as gifts to participating students. Last month, PRH donated over 1,400 books to three Read Ahead New York City partner schools: P.S.1 in Chinatown, P.S. 92Q in Corona, and P.S. 125 in Harlem.

One principal said: “Thank you for this generous book donation! Providing students with new books for the summer break ensures they stay excited about reading while they’re not in school. Thank you for another bright spot to the end of a challenging year with this gift!”

Read Ahead school partners mentioned the impact of these books, unprompted, on a virtual educators panel that was held in June (to view video of the event, click here, and note PRH mention at 57:30-59:44), demonstrating how much the donation meant to the schools and students.

This recent support further deepens our longstanding partnership, which includes a virtual Trivia Tournament hosted by the Read Ahead Junior Board in March. The event replaced the popular Strikes, Spares, and Splits bowling fundraiser, and raised a record-breaking $144,000+ this year. Nine teams participated from the PRH community, engaging 36 PRH employees who raised a collective $17,440. As part of our Matching Gifts Program, PRH also matched this amount.

Penguin Random House is proud to continue to support Read Ahead and provide NYC public schools students with new, exciting, diverse reading materials this summer.

A BIG thank you to Read Ahead and Penguin Random House!
