Second Annual Black Like We Never Left Read-a-Thon Launches on IG Live Today!
Bookstagrammer and @allwaysblack curator Cree Myles kicks off the second annual Black Like We Never Left Read-a-Thon today, a week-long virtual event celebrating Black fiction. This year’s event will highlight The Color Purple by Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winning author Alice Walker and will double as a fundraiser for We Need Diverse Books.
Every day this week, Cree will Drop Everything and Read The Color Purple on Instagram Live @allwaysblack beginning at 12 p.m. (ET). From there, she’ll head over to an exclusive Book Nook on virtual event platform OhYay for a group read.
Then, on Saturday, February 12, at 12 p.m. (ET), Cree will host a virtual party @allwaysblack featuring challenges, giveaways, and a panel conversation with authors Robert Jones, Jr. (The Prophets), Salamishah Tillet (In Search of The Color Purple), and Kiese Laymon (Heavy), who wrote the foreword of the 40th anniversary edition of The Color Purple.
Readers will have an opportunity to donate to We Need Diverse Books during the event. Once again, All Ways Black has also partnered with Out of Print on a limited-edition T-shirt, with all proceeds benefitting the organization. The goal is to surpass last year’s efforts, which raised more than $10,000 for The Center for Fiction.
So, set your calendar, fire up your Reader, order your tee, and join the festivities! Only on @allwaysblack.
