When acquiring a Romance title, what are you primarily looking for in the story or writing?
For me, a good romance is all about chemistry and tension between characters. Sometimes that can look like an inferno of attraction on page one, and sometimes it’s a delicious slow burn that reaches its crescendo in the final chapters of the book. But ultimately, I’m looking for a story that makes me feel something when I read.
Tell us about a Romance title that you’re passionate about!
My recommendation is FIRST-TIME CALLER by B.K. Borison, conveniently publishing this week! This Baltimore-set romance is a swoony story about a single-mom named Lucie who goes viral locally after her daughter calls into a radio show. The call sets off a chain of events that lead to Lucie and the radio host, Aiden, getting to know each other and developing unstoppable feelings for one another. The book is a cozy, romantic delight!
How is the genre evolving and what do you find most exciting?
Romance authors are continuous innovators—no genre is safe from a love story! So right now, we’re seeing a surge in romantasy—romantic fantasy—that has been incredibly exciting to witness and participate in.
