Our #GiveaBook 2016 Campaign Donates 100,000 Books in 3 Days

the nix giveabook This year’s Penguin Random House #GiveaBook campaign, which launched on Giving Tuesday, invited readers to claim 5 of 50,000 books for their hometown, and quickly passed its initial goal, assigning 50,000 books in a single day. In response, Penguin Random House increased its donation to 100,000 books, which were earmarked by readers within two more days for kids across the country through First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that distributes books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families. This new #GiveaBook framework gives readers everywhere the power to give back and donate Penguin Random House books to students and educators in their local communities, continuing our mission to help nourish a passion for reading among the next generation of readers.

The #GiveaBook campaign doesn’t stop at 100,000 books. Now through December 31, 2016, Penguin Random House is tripling the impact of donations made to First Book. Your donation through www.firstbook.org/prhcould help provide three times as many books to kids in local communities.  First Book can provide a new book to a child in need for just $3. Every $3 donated, online and off, will also be matched with an in-kind donation of two additional books from Penguin Random House.

Penguin Random House celebrated the launch of #GiveaBook and the giving season by distributing books as gifts to readers at locations in New York, Maryland, Indiana and California.

Through this cross-departmental effort, Emily Condlin has been leading the team driving the #GiveaBook 2016 campaign, highlighting the ongoing impact of our social responsibility programs. Thank you for joining us in celebrating the positive power of books and reading this holiday season. Stay tuned for more campaign updates and for shareable social media assets to help spread the word.
