Audiobook of the Year (Audible US)
ATMOSPHERE by Taylor Jenkins Reid, narrated by Julia Whelan, Kristen DiMercurio & Taylor Jenkins Reid (Random House Audio)
From the author of THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO and DAISY JONES & THE SIX comes an epic new novel set against the backdrop of the 1980s space shuttle program about the extraordinary lengths we go to live and love beyond our limits. Joan Goodwin has been obsessed with the stars for as long as she can remember. Thoughtful and reserved, Joan is content with her life as a professor of physics and astronomy at Rice University and as aunt to her precocious niece, Frances. That is, until she comes across an advertisement seeking the first women scientists to join NASA’s space shuttle program. Suddenly, Joan burns to be one of the few people to go to space.
Audiobook of the Year (Audible UK)
MOTHER MARY COMES TO ME by Arundhati Roy, read by Arundhati Roy (Penguin Audio)
The incredible first memoir from the Booker-winning radical icon Arundhati Roy, author of THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS.
Arundhati Roy’s first work of memoir, this is a soaring account, both intimate and inspiring, of how the author became the person and the writer she is, shaped by circumstance, but above all by her relationship to her extraordinary, singular mother Mary, who she describes as ‘my shelter and my storm’.
Audiobook of the Year (Audible Latino)
“Perreo, una revolución” by Cazzu, read by Cazzu (PRH Grupo Editorial Argentina)
Cazzu is one of the most important trappers in Latin America. It is no coincidence she is called La Jefa. It is no coincidence her twerk bothers many, challenges many, and leaves no one indifferent.
For years, Cazzu has faced one question: “How does it feel to succeed in such a misogynistic musical genre?” And as it happens to almost any famous virtuosa, she was asked to explain. But why was she asked more often than men? And above all, is reggaeton really misogynistic? This book was born as an answer to and an exploration of this duality that nests inside the genre: lyrics that sexualize women, but also women who express their desire, who know what they want, how and when.
