Ballantine Books Author Lisa Damour Celebrates Inside Out 2 Premiere on the Red Carpet
On Monday, June 10, the stars behind the eagerly awaited Inside Out 2 (Pixar Animation Studios) stepped out onto the red carpet in Los Angeles, California. Attending the premiere was Ballantine Books author Lisa Damour, Ph.D.! Damour was invited to collaborate with the team behind Inside Out 2, consulting in an expert role as the film introduced a new character: Anxiety. She was a stellar pick!
Recognized as a thought leader by the American Psychological Association, Lisa Damour, Ph.D., writes about adolescents for the New York Times. Her editor, Susanna Porter, explains “Dr. Lisa Damour has published three bestselling books with Ballantine, UNTANGLED: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood, UNDER PRESSURE: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls, and THE EMOTIONAL LIVES OF TEENAGERS. Her books particularly focus on the emotional lives of kids today, boys and especially girls, from elementary school age through post-college. Her advice is smart, accessible, and entertaining. She’s the ideal authority to collaborate on this new film.”
Kelsey Mann, director of Inside Out 2, says, “When we decided we were making a movie about a teen girl and the chaos that comes with adolescence we knew we needed to talk to an expert, so we immediately called in Lisa. I had been given her books ‘Untangled’ and ‘Under Pressure’ while I was in development, and they were full of great inspiration. Not only does Lisa have an incredibly empathetic understanding of the emotional lives of teens, she’s also a storyteller herself, and that combination of expertise and creativity was just what we needed.”
Damour worked alongside Dacher Keltner, PhD, one of the world’s foremost emotion scientists. Of her introduction to the job, she writes, ““I will never forget my first meeting – over Zoom – with Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann and writer Meg LeFauve. They were holding copies of UNTANGLED and UNDER PRESSURE and brimming with ideas and questions about the story they wanted to tell. Many meetings and a few trips to Pixar later, I am thrilled to say that they have developed an extraordinary film that celebrates the depth, complexity, and magic of teenage girls. It has been an honor to contribute to bringing this movie to life.”
Inside Out 2 premiered on Friday, June 10, with a wide release planned for Friday, June 14.
