Consumer Marketing Launches #ReadAsianAuthors Campaign

Share this story with your world:

In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander month, the Consumer Marketing team has launched a campaign as part of the Books Connect Us initiative to amplify our Asian American authors using #ReadAsianAuthors. We want to show support for Asian American readers and writers during this difficult time of anxiety and xenophobia and provide a platform for our authors to share their stories.

We have a ton of great content to promote throughout the month, including several book lists on PRH.com, ReadItForward.com, and ReadBrightly.com, and a piece that celebrates food in Asian American literature featuring beautiful illustrations of the dishes included. We also have fantastic essays written by authors, including The Importance of Varied Asian American Narratives by Julie Leung and How The Joy Luck Club Inspired Me to Be an Author by Frances Cha, as well as book recommendations from C Pam Zhang and Mira Jacobs.

Throughout the month there will be appearances by Asian American authors on the Books Connect Us podcast, including a #ReadAsianAuthors episode at the end of the month featuring Roselle Lim and Soniah Kamal. Additionally, the team is planning a #ReadAsianAuthors virtual Zoom event at the end of May featuring Asian American cookbook authors, including the Boba Guys, Andrea Nyugen, Archana Mundhe, and more!

The campaign also includes email promotion, including a Books Connect Us Staff Picks email by our own Christine Hung, featuring books by Asian American authors, outreach to bookstagrammers encouraging the use of the #ReadAsianAuthors, and a high-profile influencer campaign that includes musician AJ Rafael, actress and comedian Jackie Fernandez, Youtuber Jimmy Zhang, and more!

We’d love everyone’s help promoting this campaign using #ReadAsianAuthors and continuing to support our Asian American readers and authors, not only this month but throughout the year and always. You can find social assets for the lists and essays here. If you have any questions, suggestions, or additional asset requests please reach out to Rianna Jobanputra.
