Elizabeth Gilbert’s CITY OF GIRLS is #1 Pick on Amazon’s “Best Books of the Year So Far” List
Elizabeth Gilbert’s CITY OF GIRLS, published by Riverhead, was named the #1 pick, topping Amazon’s selections for its Best Books of the Year So Far. Sarah Gelman, Editorial Director, Amazon Books, said of the novel, “It has so many elements that make reading fun – the sparkle of youth, indiscretions, sassy characters, and freedom in a city that doesn’t sleep – perfect summer reading in our book.”
Elizabeth Gilbert said, “What a delight and a joy, to have earned this great accolade! It’s my understanding that they see a lot of books at Amazon, so this is a particularly delicious honor. Thank you for loving CITY OF GIRLS, and for bringing it to the world’s attention. I’m truly grateful and thrilled.”
In her coverage of this announcement, Amazon Book Review Editor, Erin Kodicek, called CITY OF GIRLS a “bawdy, big-hearted, and ultimately wise novel [and] the injection of joy we need right now.”
CITY OF GIRLS was also named the “Best Book of June” by the Amazon Books editors. It joins previous “Best Books of the Year So Far” picks that include Tara Westover’s Educated (Random House), Arundhati Roy’s The Ministry of Utmost Happiness (Vintage), and Hope Jahren’s Lab Girl (Vintage).
This news comes in on top of CITY OF GIRLS already being named a Best Book of the Summer by Elle, Good Housekeeping, O, The Oprah Magazine, InStyle, People, Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, The Washington Post, and more. As well as being featured on CBS “This Morning,” NBC’s “Today” show, and OWN’s “Super Soul Sunday.”
