For Fans of “The Office” TV Series, Andy Greene’s New Book is Your Companion for “Binge Re-Watching”
Our new Igloo Book Buzz selection is Andy Greene’s “epic oral history of The Office” (Men’s Journal) THE OFFICE: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s, launching this week from Dutton with buzzy national publicity, including coverage from The New York Times Book Review, People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, USA Today, Associated Press, A.V. Club, Vulture and more.
When asked about his inspiration for writing the book, Andy Greene said, “I wanted to take on this project after seeing the huge reaction to my oral history of the Dinner Party for Rolling Stone and realizing that nobody had ever written a book about the show. I feel it’s the greatest network sitcom of the past 20 years and it warranted a thorough examination. I spent somewhere around 300 hours talking to the people that made the show during the long process and it only made me love it even more. It was challenging to shape that into a book, but the team at Dutton was an enormous help and I couldn’t be more pleased with the final result.”
Speaking on her experience of working with Greene on THE OFFICE, Dutton VP, Executive Editor Jill Schwartzman said, “From the moment I read the proposal for THE OFFICE, I knew I HAD to work on the book – I’d loved the show ever since the first season and enjoyed watching it streaming now and then, but nothing brought me back to my original love for the show like Andy’s proposal did. Over the next few months, the book kept getting better, and better, and Andy was a dream to work with. I’m so excited to finally share the book with the world!”
Fans of the sitcom are invited to join Andy Greene’s Instagram Live launch event for the book with Rob Sheffield on Friday, 3/27 at 7:00 PM (ET) via Dutton’s Instagram account (@DuttonBooks), or “The Office Trivia Game” on Tuesday, 3/31 via Andy Greene’s Twitter account (@greeneandy).
