In Celebration of International Literacy Day, PRH US and PRH Canada Team Up to Support Worldreader
Since 1967, International Literacy Day (ILD) on September 8 has been celebrated annually around the globe. The aim of ILD is to promote the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. At the forefront of our social impact commitments are programs offering books to people in communities where few are available. Every year we contribute millions of books which serve as an invaluable resource to schools and programs worldwide.
To honor International Literacy Day, we’re partnering with Penguin Random House Canada to support our longstanding partner organization, Worldreader, which champions digital reading, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. For every book purchased on PRH.com, PRH US will donate $1 to Worldreader, up to $10K.
As Worldreader’s largest global publishing partner, our company is proud to help advance literacy around the world. We have donated hundreds of licenses for Worldreader e-reader programs in sub-Saharan Africa, linking literature of all reading levels and age groups to schools and libraries throughout the region. In 2016, we also launched our exciting Author Ambassador program, which connects renowned writers to Worldreader-affiliated schools.
Penguin Random House and Worldreader proudly partner to help create a world where everyone is a reader. Visit www.worldreader.org and http://www.social-impact.penguinrandomhouse.com to learn more about how we are committed to creating the next generation of readers around the world.
