Poet, performer, and activist Andrea Gibson passed away on July 14 at the age of 49 after a four-year battle with ovarian cancer.

The author of eight books including TAKE ME WITH YOU (Plume), Gibson impacted the lives of thousands of readers and fellow writers and has proven to be one of the most quotable and influential poets of our time. They built a career at the forefront of the spoken-word movement, often performing work tied to social reform, politics, gender norms, and queer identity. Gibson was also the first winner of the Women’s World Poetry Slam and regularly headlined tours at performance venues all over the world.

“Plume is so proud to have published TAKE ME WITH YOU and to be part of Andrea Gibson’s incredible legacy,” said Jill Schwartzman, Editorial Director of Plume. “Andrea’s takes on love, family, sexuality, and gender were fierce, incisive, impactful, and meant so much to their fans and readers. They will be deeply missed.”
