President Bill Clinton and James Patterson Collaborate on Second Novel – THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER

President Bill Clinton and bestselling author James Patterson are co-writing their second novel together, THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER, which will be published jointly by Alfred A. Knopf and Little, Brown and Company in June 2021. The announcement was made today by Maya Mavjee, president and publisher of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, and Michael Pietsch, CEO of Hachette Book Group.
Mavjee and Pietsch acquired North American and translation rights to the book, and Penguin Random House UK acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, from Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell of Williams & Connolly. The book will be jointly edited by Pietsch and Knopf publisher Reagan Arthur. Terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
The duo’s blockbuster debut, THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING, was the bestselling novel of 2018 and has sold over 3.2 million copies worldwide to date. It was hailed as “harrowing” by the Wall Street Journal and “ambitious and wildly readable” by the New York Times. In his review of the book for The New Yorker, Anthony Lane said, “There’s a twist or two of which Frederick Forsyth might be proud.”
THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER will be a stand-alone novel—not a sequel—with a new, original cast of characters. It follows a former president of the United States, now relocated to rural New Hampshire, whose daughter is kidnapped. Like their earlier book, the story will be told with Patterson’s signature suspense and will be informed by details that only a president can know. A sneak-peek excerpt from the new book is included in the mass-market edition of THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING, which goes on sale May 26.
“I never imagined I’d be writing a book with a master storyteller like Jim, much less two. I was grateful for the success of the first book, and I believe readers will enjoy reading THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER as much as I’m enjoying working on it,” said President Clinton.

THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER will be published simultaneously in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook, with the logos of both Little, Brown and Knopf displayed on all editions. “The unprecedented reader-driven success of their first collaboration augurs well for their second,” said Mavjee and Pietsch in a joint statement, “as Clinton and Patterson have become masters of the presidential thriller.”
Clinton and Patterson will be available for interviews at the time of publication, while tour plans will be determined at a later date.
