PYR Team “High Fives” PRH Colleagues in Celebration of National High Five Day, New HIGH FIVE Book

In celebration of yesterday’s National High Five Day and the release of HIGH FIVE (Dial Books for Young Readers; on sale Tuesday, April 16), the highly anticipated new picture book from the creators of DRAGONS LOVE TACOS, members of the Penguin Young Readers team spent Thursday morning in the 1745 Broadway lobby greeting everyone with a high five.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Adam Rubin has been out spreading the news of HIGH FIVE and National High Five Day, including an appearance on Good Morning America yesterday morning. He’s currently on a three week tour across the country, meeting—and high fiving!—kids in cities from Boston to San Diego, and appearing at Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and TLA.

HIGH FIVE is the latest collaboration between Rubin and illustrator Daniel Salmieri. From hand-limbering stretches to lessons on “five-ing with finesse,” readers are guided through a series of interactive challenges, each goofier than the next. Do you have what it takes to be the next High Five Champion? Read (and smack!) the book to find out! Adam and Daniel’s best known picture book partnership, DRAGONS LOVE TACOS, has been a blockbuster hit since its publication in 2012.  With incredibly passionate fans, DRAGONS LOVE TACOS remains a New York Times bestseller six years later (with over 265 weeks on the bestsellers list) and even spawned a sequel.

National High Five Day was started by one of the Executive Directors of the nonprofit CoachArt. Throughout the year, CoachArt provides free arts and athletics to kids impacted by chronic illness to improve their social and emotional well-being. National High Five Day occurs on the third Thursday of each April and is as simple as it sounds—a holiday about giving high-fives and spreading joy. As part of his tour, Adam visited some CoachArt kids last weekend in Los Angeles to teach them about writing.
