Rising star Carsyn Rose (age 11), plays Amber Brown.

Paula Danziger’s beloved and bestselling children’s chapter book series, Amber Brown, is now a popular TV series on Apple TV+. Adapted by actress Bonnie Hunt, who writes and directs the series, the show follows Amber Brown as she navigates the ups and downs of shared custody after her parents’ divorce.

The 10-episode series launched late last month and is receiving rave reviews, with the Associated Press raving, “What Hunt has done for adults in projects such as ‘Jerry Maguire,’ ‘Dave’ and TV’s ‘Life with Bonnie,’ she now generously extends to children—and the grownups who love them—with ‘Amber Brown.’” Variety raves, “’Amber Brown’ is a rare and essential series aimed at an important, formative age group that Hollywood frequently neglects.” And Commonsense Media says “This warm and empathetic show is a must-see for the whole family.”

The TV show was inspired by Paula Danziger’s bestselling and critically-acclaimed Amber Brown chapter book series, published by Putnam Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers. The first book in the series, Amber Brown is Not a Crayon was lauded as a “funny, touching slice of third-grade life, told in the voice of a feisty, lovable heroine” (School Library Journal, starred review), and “a pitch-perfect view of a child’s emotions” (Kirkus, starred review).
