Recommend your Favorite Books & Celebrate the Potential of Young People with "Matilda's Reading List"

This October, Penguin Young Readers and The Roald Dahl Story Company will launch “Matilda’s Reading List,” an opportunity for readers across the U.S. to share their reading recommendations with Matilda, Roald Dahl’s iconic book worm and star of the new film Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, adapted from the 2011 Tony and Olivier award–winning musical, premiering worldwide on Netflix December 25, 2022. “Matilda’s Reading List” aims to celebrate diverse new voices that embrace Matilda’s timeless messages of literacy and bravery.
Between October 1-November 13, 2022, educators and families are invited to visit https://bit.ly/MatildaReadingList to make the case for which of their favorite books Matilda should read next. The final reading list will be announced in late November 2022.
To qualify, recommended titles must have been published within the last five years, be intended for readers aged 8-12, and speak to at least one of the key themes of the original story:
- Celebrates strong young people
- Features someone standing up for what they believe in
- Champions bravery
- Speaks to a love of books
