See Highlights from Book World at ECCC (and Peek Our Favorite Cosplay!)
Book World presented by Penguin Random House was back at Emerald City Comic Con for the first time since 2019, in the newly unveiled and landmark Summit addition to the Seattle Convention Center. Known for a highly engaged and literary audience, the Comic Con crowd was enthralled by our literary fiction, horror, and thrillers — and best of all, they wanted to discover new releases!
Book sales through our indie bookstore partner, University Bookstore, were strong and our sell-through rate was higher than at any previous ECCC! Popular titles were EMILY WILDE’S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES, STAR WARS JEDI: BATTLE SCARS, signed copies of THE COMPLETE MAUS, WHAT IF? 2, SHUBEIK LUBEIK, and ALL OF THE MARVELS.
Our friendly and knowledgeable marketing and publicity colleagues are to thank for clever and irresistible book recommendations that led to us selling out of BUNNY, SUBURBAN HELL, NIGHTBITCH and signed copies of THE NIGHT CIRCUS!
We also hosted author signings in our booth, including Sam Maggs and Douglas Wolk, and popular giveaways meant that Comic Con attendees were often lining up around the Book World booth to receive copies of eagerly awaited titles such as NOCTURNE, SILVER NITRATE, CHAIN GANG ALL STARS and COUNTERWEIGHT. We also had special gift-with-purchase FIGHT EVIL, READ BOOKS baseball caps, beanies, socks and pins (which were especially popular with librarians and teachers).
Perhaps, everyone’s favorite part of Comic Con is seeing an excited and imaginative audience in their best cosplay. Click through below for some of our favorite looks this time around!
A big thank you to our hardworking booth staff Jordan Aaronson, Liza Cassity, Julianne Clancy, Keith Clayton, Lauren Ealy, Ashleigh Heaton, Anne Jaconette, Gabrielle Korn, Lyzbeth Lara, David Moench, Matthew Sciarappa, and Andrew Taets. A special thanks for Logan Balestrino and Lara Phan as well!
