The Random House Book Club Happy Hour Welcomes Author Rachel Joyce via Zoom (1/26)
Rachel Joyce will discuss her novel, MISS BENSON’S BEETLE (The Dial Press Trade Paperback), the Random House Book Club January Spotlight pick, at this month’s RHBC Happy Hour via Zoom on January 26 at 7:30 pm (ET).
There’s so much to discuss about life’s alternate paths and the truths we bury deep in our hearts. Sure, romantic love is great. But does it really sustain us, transform us, and make us feel seen the way true. Rachel Joyce’s MISS BENSON’S BEETLE is a warm, wild adventure that follows two spirited women on a journey to the edge of the earth.
In London, 1950, schoolteacher Margery Benson decides on a whim to quit her job and set off on an expedition to New Caledonia in search of a golden beetle . . . which may or may not exist. When her search for an assistant yields the last person she had in mind—fun-loving, endlessly chatty Enid Pretty—they must find a way to work together to survive on the other side of the world. And as their adventure unfolds, they’ll find so much more than just that.
Rachel Joyce is the author of the Sunday Times and international bestsellers The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy, and Perfect. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry was short-listed for the Commonwealth Book Prize and long-listed for the Man Booker Prize and has been translated into thirty-six languages. Joyce was awarded the Specsavers National Book Awards New Writer of the Year in 2012. She is also the author of the digital short story A Faraway Smell of Lemon and is the award-winning writer of more than thirty original afternoon plays and classic adaptations for BBC Radio 4. Rachel Joyce lives with her family in Gloucestershire.
