This Wednesday, Celebrate Juneteeth With One World Author Brea Baker
In a powerful celebration of Juneteenth, The Gathering for Justice is proud to present a special edition of “Radical Readz” featuring prominent activist, organizer and One World author Brea Baker. Celebrating the release of Baker’s insightful new book, “Rooted: The American Legacy of Land Theft and the Modern Movement for Black Land Ownership,” the event will take place on Wednesday, June 19, at 2:00 PM at The Center at West Park on Manhattan’s upper west side.
Brea Baker will be joined by acclaimed actor and activist Nicholas L. Ashe and The Gathering’s President Carmen Perez-Jordan for an enlightening conversation on the importance of land ownership and the ongoing struggle for justice. The discussion will highlight the themes of Baker’s book, focusing on the historical and current issues surrounding land theft and the empowerment of reclaiming ownership, including Baker’s personal story of reclaiming and farming her ancestors’ land in North Carolina. The event will also feature music and special guests including NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Tamika D. Mallory, Mysonne Linen, Dr. Tami Lee, Stanley Fritz, Rev. Stephen Green, Mack Graham, and members of Justice League NYC. The program will be followed by a book signing reception.
