On May 22, Tiny Reparations Books celebrated two momentous occasions: the 5th anniversary of the imprint and the launch of the National bestseller MARSHA, Tourmaline’s highly anticipated biography of LGBTQ+ activist and icon Marsha P. Johnson.

The event was held at the Brooklyn Museum, coinciding with MARSHA being the Brooklyn Reads selection for May.

The crowd of over 300 people were treated to an inspiring and funny conversation between Tiny Reparations Books founder Phoebe Robinson and Tourmaline. During the event, Robinson and Tourmaline discussed the impact of Johnson’s legacy, activism, and the importance of finding joy. The evening also included two special performances by the legendary activist and performer Egyptt LaBeija, and a special toast to celebrate both momentous occasions.

Founded by comedian, actress, New York Times bestselling author, and producer Phoebe Robinson, Tiny Reparations Books was launched in 2020. The imprint is dedicated to highlighting and amplifying unique and diverse voices, and has published nearly twenty titles including the National Book Award longlist nominees MAGICAL/REALISM by Vanesa Angélica Villarreal and HOLLER, CHILD by LaToya Watkins, and Edgar nominee and New York Times bestseller PORTRAIT OF A THIEF by Grace D. Li. This fall, the imprint will publish Char Adam’s BLACK-OWNED and Hiroko Yoda’s 8 MILLION WAYS TO HAPPINESS.

To celebrate the five-year anniversary all year long, Tiny Reparations Books is partnering with Little Free Library to send books to stewards and communities located in select “book deserts” across the country, including Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Utah, and New Mexico. The collaboration is part of the imprint’s driving mission to promote widespread accessibility to help readers discover diverse stories and storytellers. The imprint will also host behind-the-scenes staff features and major sweepstakes on their social media channels this year, and Phoebe Robinson along with many TRB authors will be making appearances at major national literary festivals including Essence Music Festival, Brooklyn Book Festival, and the Texas Book Festival.
