This past February, Berkley joined the nonprofit VOW for Girls and the romance community to help end child marriage around the world. With the help of donors, including Penguin Random House, the Every Girls Deserves Happily Ever After campaign raised $53,000. That’s enough to send 300 girls to school for a full year, covering all expenses from school fees to supplies and transportation.
The campaign received incredible support from authors, bookstores, media outlets, and social channels. Major media mentions, including write-ups from People and Oprah Daily, reached 249 million readers. Social media posts, including mentions from authors and bookstores, had a reach of over 576,000.
The Ripped Bodice in Brooklyn hosted a sold-out Galentine’s Day event focused on highlighting the campaign, featuring romance authors, including Stacey Abrams, author of POWER OF PERSUASION.
“If you truly love humanity, you’re going to do everything in your power to make sure that every person fully realizes their potential,” Abrams said at the event. “And that starts with the youngest among us, especially with young girls.”
VOW for Girls was especially excited to report that 98% of all campaign donors were brand new to VOW—proof that the campaign activated a new audience within the romance community and underscored how storytelling can drive change.
