WaterBrook is extremely proud to announce that the picture book HOLY NIGHT AND LITTLE STAR by Mitali Perkins has been awarded the 2024 Christianity Today Book Award in the Children’s Category. Acquired and edited by Sarah Rubio, HOLY NIGHT AND LITTLE STAR was announced as the winner by children’s author and cocreator of the Otter B series, Pamela Kennedy, who praised it as an “original Christmas story” that “reads almost like a lullaby.”

According to Christianity Today, their yearly book awards go to titles “most likely to shape evangelical life, thought, and culture.” CT’s senior books editor, Matt Reynolds, states that the winners in this year’s lineup are comprised of “insight and beauty on their own. And like all good books, they are made complete in the greatest Book of all.”

Mitali’s novels and picture books have been nominated for the National Book Award, won the South Asia Book Award, and listed as Best Book of the year by Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, and School Library Journal. Her stories—including her two WaterBrook picture books, HOLY NIGHT AND LITTLE STAR and BARE TREE AND LITTLE WINDare known for highlighting strong characters who prioritize community and promote justice. Born in India, Mitali loves Christmas but didn’t grow up celebrating it in her family of origin. Therefore, she likes to think of HOLY NIGHT AND LITTLE STAR as her “gift to the church to help them see the wonder and marvel of what God did that night through an outsider’s eyes.”
