On Monday, May 25th, we pay tribute to the Americans who have died in service to our country.  Memorial Day, originally known as “Decoration Day,” began in 1868 after the Civil War as a time for citizens to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags. It became an official federal holiday in 1971.
