RHCB to Publish Award-Winning HAMILTON Star Phillipa Soo’s Debut Picture Book

Random House Studio, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, will publish PIPER CHEN SINGS by Phillipa Soo and Maris Pasquale Doran, illustrated by acclaimed artist Qin Leng, it was announced today by Lee Wade, VP & Publisher of Random House Studio and the book’s editor. Coalition of Booksellers, Authors & Publishers File Suit to Challenge New Censorship Law in Texas

On July 25, the American Association of Publishers, of which Penguin Random House is a member, joined two Texas booksellers (Book People in Austin and Blue Willow Bookshop in Houston), American Booksellers Association, Authors Guild, and Comic Book Legal Defense Fund to file a legal challenge to “The Reader Act” (formerly Texas HB 900). The lawsuit claims that the bill, which requires Texas school library material vendors to rate books based on sexual content, violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments.

Six Penguin Random House titles were longlisted for The Center for Fiction 2023 First Novel Prize. The Center for Fiction says, “The twenty-five debut novels were selected from 160 submitted titles with U.S. publication dates between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023.” These exemplary debuts showcase some of the best storytelling this year.
