WOW! 4 PRH Pulitzer Prize Winners: Gage, Hsu, Samuels and Olorunnipa, Diaz

The unmatched Penguin Random House Pulitzer Prize tradition and achievement continues. William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, John Steinbeck, Ron Chernow, Anne Applebaum, Colson Whitehead (twice). These are just a few of the Penguin Random House authors whose work has been honored with a Pulitzer, the most prestigious annual prize in American letters. Joining our previous 133 winners are these 2023 recipients, in four of the six Letters categories, announced May 8 at Columbia University, by Administrator Marjorie Miller.

One World Author Fatimah Asghar Wins Inaugural Carol Shields Fiction Prize for WHEN WE WERE SISTERS

Poet and screenwriter Fatimah Asghar is the first winner of the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction. Asghar won the prize for their debut novel WHEN WE WERE SISTERS (One World). In a ceremony at Parnassus Books in Nashville, Asghar was awarded the top prize: $150,000 and a writing residency at Fogo Island Inn in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Knopf Doubleday’s HIDEOUT by Louisa Luna Wins Edgar Award

The 77th Annual Edgar® Awards were celebrated last week in New York City and Penguin Random House is proud of the winning titles, as well as the nominees. The awards, which honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction and television published in 2022 were livestreamed on YouTube and gathered the best voices in mystery together.

Banned Books: One Author’s Story

Attempts to ban or censor books from libraries and public schools are at an all-time high, the need to protect our right to read has never been greater. The American Library Association (ALA) documented 1,269 challenges in 2022, almost double the 729 compiled challenges of 2021 and the highest number recorded since the ALA began compiling this data more than twenty years ago. The ALA also reported that most books being targeted for censorship are written by and/or about members of the LGBTQ+ community or people of color. Continue reading →
