Friday Reads: Pride

In June we celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month), which honors the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. First, President Bill Clinton declared June “Gay & Lesbian Pride Month” on June 2, 2000. In 2009, President Barack Obama declared June Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.

LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.

RHCB and Dr. Seuss Enterprises Launch #SeussWordChallenge Campaign

In celebration of the newly published DR. SEUSS’S 100 FIRST WORDS, Random House Children’s Books (RHCB) and Dr. Seuss Enterprises (DSE) launched the first-ever Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge (#SeussWordChallenge) on May 29. “Be My Cover” Exhibit: Watch Video of Our Designers In Conversation

Penguin Random House, in partnership with Strand Book Store, recently presented an exhibit of 100 notable book covers created by a select group of Penguin Random House creative designers and art directors in a special “Be My Cover” exhibit in the Rare Book Room at Strand Book Store in New York City.

To celebrate the exhibit, Penguin Random House presented a conversation with acclaimed designers Peter Mendelsund, Jaya Miceli, Oliver Munday and Helen Yentus on May 14, when the featured guests were able to discuss their experiences designing for books. Continue reading →

There’s a Book for That: The Opioid Crisis #InsidePenguinRandom

The news continues to be grim about drug addiction and the opioid crisis in America, especially how pervasive opiates have become in our nation’s high schools. Bestselling Author Lisa Scottoline Comes to Putnam

Lisa Scottoline is bringing her beloved and bestselling brand to G.P. Putnam’s Sons with a six-book deal, including three domestic thrillers as well as her first foray into historical fiction with ETERNAL, an epic trilogy set in Fascist Italy during World War II. The deal was announced by the Associated Press and has been picked up in more than sixty outlets all across the country. Ivan Held negotiated the deal with Robert Gottlieb, Chairman at Trident Media Group, and the first domestic thriller, tentatively titled SOMEONE KNOWS, will publish in Spring 2019. Friday Reads: Great American Young Adult Reads

The Great American Read is here! On Tuesday, May 22, PBS launched THE GREAT AMERICAN READ – an eight-part series that celebrates the power of reading, “told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels. It investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience.” Voting has begun among the 100 titles: The project will culminate in October’s finale wherein America’s elected “favorite” book will be announced. Fast Company Recognizes Penguin Random House for its “College Degree Not Required” Hiring Policy

National business magazine Fast Company recently highlighted Penguin Random House as a prime example of companies who are expanding the scope of their talent pools by hiring workers without college degrees. The feature article by Gwen Moran noted that “while there isn’t exactly a race to drop degree requirements, some top companies are broadening their hiring criteria. At publishing house Penguin Random House U.S. it’s long been policy not to require college degrees, says Paige McInerny, Vice President, Human Resources. The company has some job postings that state as a suggested requirement ‘college degree or equivalent work experience.’ Except for specific jobs where a targeted, accredited degree is truly required–such as a certified public accountant or attorney–‘we do not have a mandatory, companywide higher education requirement for working at Penguin Random House U.S.,’ she says.” Continue reading →
