There’s a Book for That: American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women claiming more than 600,000 lives each year. While many lifestyle choices and medical conditions can put you at risk for heart disease, the main ones are high blood pressure, high ldl cholesterol, and smoking. According to the CDC, small changes can make a big difference:

Schedule regular visits with your doctor to talk about your heart health
Exercise daily. If this is difficult, start by taking 15-minute walks, and work up from there.
Focus on healthy eating habits like cooking at home and limiting sodium intake.
Kick the smoking habit!

Knopf Author Julian Brave NoiseCat a Recipient of the American Mosaic Journalism Prize

The Heising-Simons Foundation announced that freelance journalists Julian Brave NoiseCat, a Knopf author, and Ryan Christopher Jones are recipients of the 2022 American Mosaic Journalism Prize, awarded for excellence in long-form, narrative, or deep reporting about underrepresented and/or misrepresented groups in the United States. In an effort to provide a forum for amplifying diverse stories and voices, Penguin Random House Library Marketing is co-hosting AAPI Communities in Conversation, in collaboration with Publishers Weekly and the University of South Carolina’s Augusta Baker Endowed Chair. This year-long event series is dedicated to celebrating and highlighting notable books by Asian American and Pacific Islander authors and creators, as well as increasing the appreciation and understanding of the Asian and Pacific diasporic cultures, stories, and experiences.
