Enjoy Adult Story Time with Megha Majumdar via Zoom (8/18)

Adult Story Time with Megha Majumdar, author of A BURNING (Knopf), will be presented at a virtual event hosted by the Sturgis Library via Zoom on Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00 pm (ET).

Majumdar’s A BURNING is an electrifying debut novel about three unforgettable characters that seek to rise–to the middle class, to political power, to fame in the movies–and find their lives entangled in the wake of a catastrophe in contemporary India. Taut, symphonic, propulsive, and riveting from its opening lines, it has the force of an epic while being so masterfully compressed it can be read in a single sitting.

Megha Majumdar was born and raised in Kolkata, India. She moved to the United States to attend college at Harvard University, where she was a Traub Scholar, followed by graduate school in social anthropology at Johns Hopkins University. She works as an associate editor at Catapult, and lives in New York City.

Delacorte Press to Publish Civil Rights Icon Ruby Bridges’ New Book for Young People This Fall

Civil rights activist and icon Ruby Bridges has written a new book for young people, THIS IS YOUR TIME, to be published by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, it was announced by Barbara Marcus, President & Publisher. The book is the first from Bridges in over twenty years and will be released November 10, 2020, just a few days prior to the sixtieth anniversary of her becoming the first Black student to attend the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans on November 14, 1960, as a six-year-old. Beverly Horowitz, Senior Vice President and Publisher, Delacorte Press, acquired World Rights from Lance Volland and will edit the project. Bette Midler’s Picture Book about NYC’s Beloved Mandarin Duck Coming in February 2021

Singer, songwriter, actress, comedienne, and film producer Bette Midler will publish a children’s picture book, THE TALE OF THE MANDARIN DUCK: A Modern Fable, featuring photographs from Michiko Kakutani and illustrations from Joana Avillez, it was announced by Barbara Marcus, President & Publisher, Random House Children’s Books. The book will be published by Random House Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, on February 16, 2021. Mallory Loehr, SVP, Publisher, Random House Books for Young Readers Group, acquired World rights from Jonathan Ehrlich at Grubman, Shire, Meiselas & Sacks and will edit the project.
