Dutton and Razorbill Announce New Book, GLIMMER OF HOPE, by March For Our Lives Founders, to be Published in October

The students from Parkland, Florida who founded The March For Our Lives after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, are now adding a book to their movement. GLIMMER OF HOPE: How Tragedy Sparked a Movement will be the official, definitive book from the founders and will document the ongoing fight for sensible gun control legislation and their journey on the road to change. In a rare move, Razorbill, a Penguin Young Readers imprint, and Dutton, an adult imprint of Penguin Publishing Group, have teamed up to sell this single title together and jointly market the book, which will go on sale on October 16. Friday Reads: Steampunk!

“Steam” has entered our contemporary vernacular in a big way. “STEAM” programming is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. As a popular literary genre and aesthetic, Steampunk can generally be defined as a story set in either Victorian England or America’s Wild West wherein modern technologies are re-imagined. For instance, “Dr. Who” has Steampunk elements with its time-travel plots. As for the genre’s origin story, K.W. Jeter wrote to Locus magazine in 1987: “Personally, I think Victorian fantasies are going to be the next big thing, as long as we can come up with a fitting collective term for Powers, Blaylock and myself. Something based on the appropriate technology of the era; like ‘steam-punks’, perhaps.” Continue reading →

The Great American Read Update: Text Voting Now Available

PBS’ The Great American Read series premiered last month, kicking off a celebration of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a nationally-representative survey). You can vote online at http://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/vote/, via Facebook and Twitter, and now you can also cast your votes by sending a Text Message to 97979, using a specific hashtag for each title. The hashtags for the books published by Penguin Random House can be found here. More details about your voting options, plus a complete directory of title hashtags, are viewable here.
