Companies To Forge Unique & Collaborative Partnership

(Naperville, Illinois and New York, May 22, 2019)—Sourcebooks, one of the country’s fastest-growing independent publishers, has sold a significant minority-ownership stake to Penguin Random House. The transaction, which was announced today by Dominique Raccah, Sourcebooks’ CEO and Founder, and Madeline McIntosh, Penguin Random House U.S. CEO, will create a performance- and growth-oriented partnership between the two companies. Sourcebooks retains its majority ownership of 55%, with no changes in its leadership, management, publishing autonomy, or entrepreneurial culture. Penguin Random House now owns 45%, as a collaborative investor in the Illinois-based company. Terms were not disclosed. Continue reading →

RHCB to Publish Marie Kondo’s Debut Children’s Picture Book in Fall 2019

International tidying superstar and New York Times bestselling author Marie Kondo will bring her unique method to young readers in KIKI & JAX: The Life-Changing Magic of Friendship, a charming picture book about how tidying up creates space for joy in all parts of your life, co-written and illustrated by beloved children’s book veteran Salina Yoon, it was announced today by Barbara Marcus, President & Publisher, Random House Children’s Books. North American rights were negotiated with Neil Gudovitz, Gudovitz & Company Literary Agency (for Marie Kondo) and Jamie Weiss Chilton, Andrea Brown Literary Agency (for Salina Yoon). The book will release with a 250,000-copy first printing on November 5, 2019 and be published by the Crown Books for Young Readers imprint. Continue reading →

Riverhead Celebrates Jacqueline Woodson’s RED AT THE BONE at Weeksville Heritage Center

Riverhead Books hosted a magical evening in Brooklyn earlier this month to celebrate National Book Award-Winning author Jacqueline Woodson’s stunning new adult novel, RED AT THE BONE, which will be published by Riverhead on September 17. The festivities were held at Weeksville Heritage Center, a historic house museum in Crown Heights dedicated to preserving the history of the 19th century African American community of what was known a century ago as Weeksville, Brooklyn—one of America’s many free black communities. Four wood-frame homes from the 1860s still exist, and have been restored to reflect the different eras of Weeksville’s history. Continue reading →
