Companies To Forge Unique & Collaborative Partnership

(Naperville, Illinois and New York, May 22, 2019)—Sourcebooks, one of the country’s fastest-growing independent publishers, has sold a significant minority-ownership stake to Penguin Random House. The transaction, which was announced today by Dominique Raccah, Sourcebooks’ CEO and Founder, and Madeline McIntosh, Penguin Random House U.S. CEO, will create a performance- and growth-oriented partnership between the two companies. Sourcebooks retains its majority ownership of 55%, with no changes in its leadership, management, publishing autonomy, or entrepreneurial culture. North American rights were negotiated with Neil Gudovitz, Gudovitz & Company Literary Agency (for Marie Kondo) and Jamie Weiss Chilton, Andrea Brown Literary Agency (for Salina Yoon). Riverhead Celebrates Jacqueline Woodson’s RED AT THE BONE at Weeksville Heritage Center

Riverhead Books hosted a magical evening in Brooklyn earlier this month to celebrate National Book Award-Winning author Jacqueline Woodson’s stunning new adult novel, RED AT THE BONE, which will be published by Riverhead on September 17. The festivities were held at Weeksville Heritage Center, a historic house museum in Crown Heights dedicated to preserving the history of the 19th century African American community of what was known a century ago as Weeksville, Brooklyn—one of America’s many free black communities. There’s a Book for That: Game of Thrones

Last Sunday night’s “Game of Thrones” series finale on HBO drew a staggering 19.3 million viewers. The conclusion to the cultural phenomenon that began 8 years ago had mixed reviews. So mixed, in fact, that a petition demanding a rewrite of the last season has garnered more than 1 million signatures as of this post. The show is unique in that it ended before the book series has. The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in what Martin hopes will be a seven-book series, still has yet to be published. With the success of last year’s first-ever Dr. Seuss’s Word Challenge (#SeussWordChallenge), which resulted in over 20 million Dr. Seuss words being read by young readers over the summer, Random House Children’s Books (RHCB) and Dr. Seuss Enterprises (DSE) are upping the ante this year and challenging readers to read even more than they did in 2018.
