Random House to Publish FROM THE GROUND UP by Starbucks’ Howard Schultz in February 2019

The Random House Group has announced it will publish long-time CEO, Chairman, and current Chairman Emeritus of Starbucks Howard Schultz’s most revelatory and visionary book yet, FROM THE GROUND UP: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America, on February 12, 2019. North American publishing rights, including audio and first serial, were acquired by Random House President Gina Centrello from Jennifer Rudolph Walsh of WME. There’s a Book for That: Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15, during which time we honor the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture. Hispanic Heritage Month, whose roots go back to 1968, begins each year on September 15, the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico, Chile and Belize also celebrate their independence days during this period and Columbus Day (Día de la Raza) is October 12 (observed this year in the U.S. on Monday, October 8). Our Colleagues Jen Loja and Phoebe Yeh Win CBC Diversity Outstanding Achievement Awards

The Children’s Book Council’s CBC Diversity Committee has announced the winners of the inaugural CBC Diversity Outstanding Achievement Awards. Among the award recipients are Jen Loja, President and Publisher of Penguin Young Readers, and Phoebe Yeh, VP & Co-Publisher of Crown Books for Young Readers/Random House Children’s Books. Jen Loja is honored for demonstrating “exemplary allyship by supporting diverse voices across PYRG’s publishing program and encouraging diversity and inclusion in hiring.” Phoebe Yeh is honored for supporting and helping launch the careers of some of today’s leading diverse voices, including Kwame Alexander, Ellen Oh, Lamar Giles, and Soman Chainani. “If it were not for Phoebe,” says the CBC, “the fight for diversity in children’s books would be years or even decades behind what it is today.” Continue reading →

Redford & Spacek in Film Adaptation of David Grann’s THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN

Attention fans of Robert Redford, Sissy Spacek and David Grann: the film adaptation of Grann’s story, “The Old Man and the Gun,” opens in theaters today, September 28. Starring Redford, in what is being billed as his final screen role, The Old Man & the Gun is based on a story by Grann that was first published in The New Yorker in 2003, then included in Grann’s 2010 collection, THE DEVIL AND SHERLOCK HOLMES: Tales of Murder, Madness and Obsession (Doubleday/Vintage), and now headlines a movie tie-in edition, THE OLD MAN & THE GUN: And Other Tales of True Crime, published by Vintage earlier this month. Let’s send September out with literary strains on music…it’s Classical Music Month and we have a concert of excellent titles on composers for your reading, and listening, pleasure. Classical Music Month was first proclaimed by President Clinton in 1994. The proclamation eloquently states:
