Penguin Turns 87

—————–The very first Penguin Books logo.—————–

On July 30, Penguin Books celebrated the anniversary of its first publication of a book in the then unknown paperback format.

On that day, 87 years ago, Allen Lane, together with his brothers Richard and John, launched Penguin Books in London, beginning as an imprint of The Bodley Head, setting up shop in the basement of Holy Trinity Church, and within a year becoming a separate company. Continue reading →

Kellogg’s Feeding Reading Program is Back for a 4th Year!

Penguin Random House and the Kellogg Company are partnering for the fourth time to bring the Feeding Reading program to families with children ages 3-16 across the country. Following the success of last year’s campaign of distributing more than 300,000 books to kids and families nationwide, we are excited for our Penguin Random House characters and book covers to be featured on more than 80,000,000 Kellogg’s products. Joy Revolution, Imprint Led by Nicola Yoon and David Yoon, to Launch Inaugural List in Spring 2023

Joy Revolution, a new Random House Children’s Books imprint led by bestselling authors Nicola Yoon and David Yoon, will publish its first list in Spring 2023, as announced Thursday (7/28) by Barbara Marcus, President & Publisher, and covered here by The Hollywood Reporter. The new imprint was launched in 2020 and is committed to publishing young adult romance novels starring people of color and written by people of color. Bria Ragin, Editor, Joy Revolution/Delacorte Press, acquires and edits for the list in partnership with the Yoons, overseen by Wendy Loggia, VP/Senior Executive Editor, Delacorte Press. Check Out This Year’s Eisner Awards Winners

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, commonly shortened to the Eisner Awards, are prizes given for creative achievement in American comic books, sometimes referred to as the comics industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards. Four Penguin Random House authors and titles took home this much coveted prize at this year’s 34th Annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, held July 22 at the Bayfront San Diego Hilton during Comic-Con!

#1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Smythe took home the Eisner Award for Best Webcomic for LORE OLYMPUS (Webtoon). Lore Olympus is the most popular WEBTOON webcomic of all time, with 1.1 billion reads and 5.9 million weekly subscribers. Episodes of the webcomic are collected and published by Random House Worlds in both hardcover and trade paperback formats. Lore Olympus: Volume One published on November 2, 2021, Volume Two published July 5, 2022, and Volume Three will publish October 11, 2022.

In Memoriam: NYT Bestselling Author, Stuart Woods 1938-2022

Stuart Woods, # 1 New York Times-bestselling author of more than ninety novels, including more than 75 books featuring his larger-than-life detective-turned-lawyer-investigator Stone Barrington, died peacefully in his sleep at his Connecticut home on Friday, July 22. He was 84.
