In the face of educational disruptions following the pandemic and the mounting book banning crisis, Penguin Random House has announced an unprecedented book donation to long-standing partner Save the Children to help spread the joy of reading to kids everywhere. Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group and Penguin Random House Media are proud to announce the launch of season 1 of a brand-new crime fiction podcast Criminal Types. The first episode of the podcast dropped May 9 with special guest John Grisham. Criminal Types is recorded in the PRH Podcast Studio and celebrates all the incredible talent at Penguin Random House through deep-dive conversations with bestselling thriller writers and up-and-coming stars alike.

The unmatched Penguin Random House Pulitzer Prize tradition and achievement continues. William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, John Steinbeck, Ron Chernow, Anne Applebaum, Colson Whitehead (twice). One World Author Fatimah Asghar Wins Inaugural Carol Shields Fiction Prize for WHEN WE WERE SISTERS

Poet and screenwriter Fatimah Asghar is the first winner of the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction. Asghar won the prize for their debut novel WHEN WE WERE SISTERS (One World). In a ceremony at Parnassus Books in Nashville, Asghar was awarded the top prize: $150,000 and a writing residency at Fogo Island Inn in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 77th Annual Edgar® Awards were celebrated last week in New York City and Penguin Random House is proud of the winning titles, as well as the nominees. Banned Books: One Author’s Story

Attempts to ban or censor books from libraries and public schools are at an all-time high, the need to protect our right to read has never been greater. The American Library Association (ALA) documented 1,269 challenges in 2022, almost double the 729 compiled challenges of 2021 and the highest number recorded since the ALA began compiling this data more than twenty years ago. The ALA also reported that most books being targeted for censorship are written by and/or about members of the LGBTQ+ community or people of color. Continue reading →
