Michelle Obama Announces THE LIGHT WE CARRY Tour: In Conversation with Michelle Obama

Today, Live Nation and Crown, an imprint of Random House, announced Michelle Obama’s live U.S. book tour events in support of her new, highly anticipated book, THE LIGHT WE CARRY: OVERCOMING IN UNCERTAIN TIMES. Produced by Live Nation, the six-city U.S. tour will kick off in Washington, D.C. at Warner Theatre on November 15. The book tour will also make stops in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco, before wrapping December 13 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

PPG’s Portfolio Establishes Thesis, New Imprint Debuting Spring 2023

Portfolio, an imprint of the Penguin Publishing Group, is pleased to announce the launch of a new imprint, joining its eponymous Portfolio and its Sentinel publishing programs.

This new line, Thesis, will be led by Bria Sandford, editorial director of Sentinel, and Niki Papadopoulos, editor-in-chief of Portfolio. Adrian Zackheim will serve as Publisher. Helen Healey will also rejoin the company as Editor to acquire for Thesis, Sentinel, and Portfolio.

PRHPS’ Expanded Agreement With DARK HORSE Comics Worldwide

Dark Horse Comics, an industry-leading publisher of comic books, graphic novels, and manga, and Penguin Random House Publisher Services (PRHPS), a division of Penguin Random House, on September 21 announced an exclusive worldwide multi-year agreement for its sales and distribution of Dark Horse’s newly published and backlist comic book periodicals, graphic novels, and manga to the Direct Market comic shops. The new agreement, which begins June 1, 2023, expands its current partnership, in which PRHPS sells and distributes Dark Horse’s trade-book frontlist and backlist to bookstores. Continue reading →

Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia founder and Penguin Press author of LET MY PEOPLE GO SURFING: THE EDUCATION OF A RELUCTANT BUSINESSMAN has announced that he is giving his company away. The New York Times reported that Chouinard and his family have transferred their ownership of Patagonia, valued at about $3 billion to a specially designed set of trusts and nonprofit organizations that were created to ensure that all of its profits are used to combat climate change and protect undeveloped land around the world.

There will be a celebration of the life of Joan Didion on Wednesday, September 21 in New York at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue. The speakers will include Hilton Als, Gov. Jerry Brown, Griffin Dunne, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Susanna Moore, Vanessa Redgrave, David Remnick, Patti Smith, Jia Tolentino, Calvin Trillin, and Kevin Young.
