Sarah Stewart Johnson Wins 2021 Whiting Award for Nonfiction

Sarah Stewart Johnson, author of THE SIRENS OF MARS: The Search for Life on Another Planet (Crown), has won the 2021 Whiting Foundation Award for Nonfiction. The ten winners of the 36th Whiting Awards, each of which comes with a $50,000 prize, were announced on April 14 in a virtual ceremony. PRH Publishes 5 of 6 Finalists for the 2021 Dublin Literary Award

The shortlist for the 2021 Dublin Literary Award, sponsored by the Dublin City Council to honor a single work of fiction published in English, has been announced, with five of the six titles published by Penguin Random House imprints. The finalists were nominated by librarians worldwide. PEN America announced the winners of its 2021 Literary Awards via a virtual ceremony on Thursday, April 8, with Doubleday author Asako Serizawa winning the PEN Open Book Award for her debut story collection, INHERITORS. This award, which includes a $10,000 cash prize, recognizes an exceptional book-length work of any literary genre by an author of color. Featuring 13 stories that span five generations of a Japanese family fragmented by the Pacific side of World War II, this book also won The Story Prize Spotlight Award earlier this year. Jacqueline Woodson Named Kennedy Center’s Next Education Artist-in-Residence

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts unveiled special 50th Anniversary programming and new initiatives, including naming Penguin Random House author Jacqueline Woodson the Kennedy Center’s next Education Artist-in-Residence. Woodson, winner of the Newbery Honor, National Book Award, Coretta Scott King Award, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and MacArthur “Genius” Grant, will begin her residency in January 2022, and be involved with creative programming across multiple genres, forms, and spaces, and seen in both in the Washington, D.C. area and nationally.
