Bertelsmann Foundation Presents “How to Fix Democracy” Video and Podcast Series

The Bertelsmann Foundation and Humanity in Action have teamed up with Andrew Keen – host, author and Silicon Valley entrepreneur – to present “How to Fix Democracy,” a video and podcast series that features interviews on democracy’s past, present and future. Knopf’s THE LONG TAKE by Robin Robertson Wins Walter Scott Prize

Robin Robertson’s THE LONG TAKE, published by Alfred A. Knopf, has won the £25,000 (about $31,470) 2019 Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, which “celebrates quality, and innovation of writing in the English language, and is open to books published in the previous year in the U.K., Ireland or the Commonwealth… the majority of the storyline must have taken place at least 60 years ago.” Robertson is the first Scot and first poet to win the prize in its 10-year history. Random House Author Emily Ruskovich Wins International Dublin Literary Award for IDAHO

IDAHO by Emily Ruskovich (Random House) has won the 2019 International Dublin Literary Award, which “aims to promote excellence in world literature” by honoring a novel written in English or translated into English. The €100,000 (about $112,890) award represents one the world’s largest literary prizes. Sponsored by Dublin City Council and managed by Dublin City Libraries, the competition featured a total of 141 titles, nominated by libraries in 115 cities across 41 countries. Ruskovich is only the fourth American to win the award in its 24-year history. Continue reading →

Knopf’s Bill Loverd, Champion of Literary Titans, Dies at 78

Bill Loverd, who, as the Director of Publicity at Knopf Publishers for nearly forty years, championed the work of some of the most distinguished writers of the last half of the twentieth century, died yesterday at his home in New Jersey. He was 78. The cause was cancer. Continue reading →
